Formal McFormal Pants.

Hello again!
This past weekend was formal for my BF's Frat. I thought this would be a good topic to cover since this is only formal #2 for me.

First off, what is formal?
Formal is a time when Fraternities celebrate (not really sure what is being celebrated thought) with a larger, and fancier, than normal party. Sometimes the formals will be held somewhere for a weekend get away or in a hotel. We went to Lake Cumberland and stayed in a cabin over the weekend for this one. Like I said before, formal is definitely more formal than a regular party. All the guys wear suits and ties or a blazer and dress pants. The ladies usually wear knee length dresses. Mine was a white, a little above the knee length dress with short-sleeves and black lace running down the middle. For shoes I wore champagne colored kitten heels. If you feel more comfortable in flats, I saw many girls were them, same goes for dresses. If you feel more comfortable in a dress that covers more. Oh and hair! For that I fallowed a YouTube tutorial for an up do. I'll post a link so you can see. Hair!

After getting all fancy we all gathered together to take photos. The photos are the main reason why I say wear what you feel comfortable in. These photos will be around for a long time, if you look back and think to yourself "I should have worn X instead of Y. My ____ looks ____."   Then by all means choose X.

Next we all piled into cars and drove to have dinner. Ours was at a lovely country club with catering form a BBQ restaurant. Sometimes after dinner there is dancing, but the UK games was going to air right after dinner, and we were NOT going to miss it. In my first formal experience, after dinner we all headed back to the cabin to hang out and listen to people play guitar and sing, it really depends on what people have planed to do.

One thing I didn't realize was that sororities don't have formals like fraternities do, I learned this form a friend I work with. If you get the chance to go to a formal take it! I had so much fun talking to some of the new guys and their dates.

Spring Break In Gulf Shores!

Hello again my classy cats!
After an AMAZING Spring Break in Gulf Shores, AL. It's time to get back to school. Spring Break is notorious with fraternities and sororities for getting pretty crazy. I found that if you go with people who have the same mind set as you (party all day and night VS calm escape) you will have a great time. My group got along pretty well, I think, with a great balance of hanging out at the beach and enjoying a few drinks. Like I said I had never been to Gulf Shores before, my family and I usually go to Ocean Isle, NC for vaca. I learned some great things that I thought could be useful to future spring breakers.
Where to Eat:
While there we (the 5 of us) when out to eat to a few local places:
Mud Bugs: The only reason we found this hole in the wall was so that we could enjoy some fresh seafood while watching the UK game. DON'T BE FULLED by the sign that reads "Seafood Bar and Grill" it is most definitely a bar. I can also put it this way, it was about 2 o'clock and the only ones in there we us and the managers. Our waiters was very very nice, though. It's not my cup of tea, but if you don't mind OK food that is a  bit over prices, go for it.
The Ouster House: By far the best place I have eaten! The only down side was the wait, but it is located amongst boutiques and other little shops so we all could walk around while we waited.
Gulf Island Grill: Also a very good place to eat. The main thing I liked was that that the fried shrimp was something you could only get on the Gulf. On the down side the price was a bit high.
Papa Rocco's: We also went here for the UK game. The atmosphere was bar like but also family friendly with great live music. The Pizza was also super good. I was able to split a large with my boyfriend and have a slice left over for breakfast the next day. I feel like the prices were also manageable.
Scoops: Don't forget dessert! Scoops was a cute little ice cream shop that served Eddie's ice cream. My favorite was the strawberry shortcake!
Also, while we where there we tried to go to LuLu's but the wait was WAY too long. If you are looking to save some money, we cooked dinner a few nights. This can also depend if you rent a house/condo with a full kitchen or a hotel room.

More on the fratty side of things, I thought I was great to see and meet other people from other schools. There were a group of guys who saw my boyfriend and his friends build a table, out of sand, for beer pong and came over to talk. They turned out to be really nice and invited up to play a game of beach volleyball. In short talk to people in passing, a great way to start is with a complement! If you like a girls bikini or sundress let her so. She may let you in on some cool stores in her college town. If you see some guys building a cool sandcastle or playing a game comment and see if you can join in. There is always a flip side to things like this so be warned. The group of guys we had met at the beginning of the week were randomly calling out to girls as they walked by while we were on the beach.

My biggest thing is just be safe and have fun!

P.S.
I have recently been getting a lot of complements on my outfits, so i'll try to start posting what I wear to what. If you like something let me know in a comment. Also keep and eye out for my Spring Formal and Founders Day posts.

XOXO

Spring Break!!

Hi!
Spring Break is almost upon us and where am I going you may ask? To one of the classiest beaches of them all...
I can't wait to see the ocean and the sand.

Shoe Savior

Hi!
A few weeks ago I went to a party and looked super cute. I had a pair of amazing blue platform heels on with skinny jeans. The party was great, but the next morning my shoes looked liked I had ran through mud, so some other brown gunk :(. I didn't spend a fortune on these shoes, they were on clearance at Khole's, but they were still really cute. I was so upset that these beautiful shoes were messed up that I had to find a way to save them! If you find that your shoes look like they have have been through hell and back fallow thees steps.
What You Will Need:
1. Sink of warm water
2. Dawn dish soap (I used the original blue kind)
3. Wash rag
4. Your poor shoes

First, fill the sink with water adding Dawn as it runs, like adding bubble bath soap to a tub. After the water is nice a soapy dip wash rag into water and gently rub dirt off shoes, work in circular motions. Then let set over night, or until shoes are dry.

Warning!: If you shoes are leather or suede I would not use these steps to clean them. Find a leather cleaner or something that will not damage the material.

The Rush for Rush.

Dear Classy Cats,
A new semester means that Spring Rush will soon be upon us. Rush occurs at the beginning of each semester and is a time for fraternities to get new people (start a new pledge class). Fall Rush is usually bigger and more widely know than Spring. During Rush Week the fraternities will host get-togethers and parties, for girlfriends this means meeting a bunch of new people. Most of the meetings and get-togethers will be just for the potential guys and the guys already in the frat so don't freak if you are not invited to every get-together. At the end of the week the frat will choose X number of guys that they want to be in a pledge class. The guys in the frat will give out a "Bid" to each guys they want and the guy can either take it or leave it. This usually happens behind close doors, so if your guy disappears for a little bit he is probably doing frat stuff. After the bids have been given out there will probably be a party to celebrate the new comers. For me it takes a bit to remember everyone's name so the best way to remember is to have your boyfriend introduce you to each guy and if you don't remember a name just ask.  Happy Rushing!
xoxo,
Sarah

Party 101

Dear Classy Cats,
With the old year behind us and a new year to look forward to that means new parties! Everyone loves a good party and when you are a girlfriend of a frat boy there is always something to do on a Friday or Saturday night. Frat parties are notorious for cheap beer and loud music, but some of them can be really fun. Since my boyfriend belongs to a small frat the parties are reasonably sized. I like these sizes because I know a majority of the people attending, with the occasional stranger.

If you have never been to a frat party there are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Wear comfortable shoes! You will be dancing literally all night so you don't to have to sit out the rest of the night because of blisters. I like to wear neon yellow flats that I bought from Khole's for about $10. They are comfortable and a fun color to get me in the mood to dance the night away. These shoes will also come in handy if you end up walking to or from the party house.
  • Eat and hydrate before you go! These parties are not meant for people to eat and chill out. I try to eat dinner plus a power bar before I go out (the parties usually start at 10:00 or 11:00). Drinking a lot of water will also help you through the night.
  • Dance dance dance!! If the guy playing DJ is doing a good job he will play all the good hits (Rap, Pop, Electric and maybe a little Country). Unleash your inner Beyonsé and get on the the  floor! If you are not comfortable twerking or grinding just jump around and have a good time.
  • Lastly Be careful of where your get your  drinks. If you don't know/ trust the guys hosting the party the best bet is to go with a caned drink (if you want to have a drink). If you don't want to drink that is totally your decision, no one should push you to drink if you are not comfortable with it.
I hope theses few points will help if you are new to the college party scene or just want a refresher for the new year.
xoxo,
Sarah
